grid bot

A grid bot you can backtest before it buys the first level.

Grid trading sells the range: buy at each level down, sell at each level up. It looks great in a sideways market and bleeds in a trend. OptAlgo backtests the grid with real fees and funding, grades the result, and lets you see the drawdown of a breakout before you run it.

01

What a grid bot does

You set a price range and a number of levels. The bot places buy orders below price and sell orders above, and each filled buy is paired with a sell one level up. Profit per round trip is the level spacing minus two fees. The risk is a move out of the range, where the bot holds a full bag or stops trading.

02

What the backtest must include

Fees on every level (grids trade often, so fees dominate), funding if the grid runs on perpetuals, exchange minimum order sizes at each level, and intrabar fills, because a 1-hour candle can cross several levels. OptAlgo replays all four on 1-minute data and the honesty grade says which were real.

03

Test it on the chart first

The free FreedX Grid Backtest template on TradingView shows the grid, its fills and equity on the chart for any symbol and range. When the range looks right, describe the same grid to your AI and OptAlgo backtests it with execution-grade costs.

“Backtest a 20-level grid on ETHUSDT between 2,400 and 3,600 on 15m, 0.04% taker fee, from 2024.”
04

Run it on your exchange

Deploy a graded grid as a hosted strategy and OptAlgo runs it on paper first, then live on Binance, Bybit or OKX when you confirm. Funds stay on the exchange; the API key cannot withdraw. Allocation and daily-loss limits are enforced on the server.

Grid bot FAQ

Is a grid bot profitable?

In a range, after fees, often. In a trend, it accumulates a losing position. The backtest with fees and a walk-forward across different regimes is how you find out for your symbol and range.

Does OptAlgo have a one-click grid bot?

OptAlgo has grid backtesting in the engine and a free grid template on TradingView. A live grid runs as a hosted strategy your AI writes, not as a preset you click.

Spot or futures grid?

Both can be backtested. A futures grid adds funding payments and leverage; the backtest includes exact funding so the comparison is honest.
