Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex write and fix the strategy code, read the backtest findings and propose the next experiment. They do not predict prices, place discretionary orders or hold API keys. Chat connectors are paper-only; live trading needs your confirmation in the app.
Each backtest returns a grade from A to D, an overfit verdict based on how many variants were tried, and a list of findings. Your AI is told to show the equity curve and the grade before any return figure, so the conversation stays about evidence.
One backtest is in-sample. Ask for a walk-forward, a holdout, a Monte Carlo or a permutation test and the AI runs it through the same engine. Studies group every variant of one idea so the final verdict counts all of them.

They write and test strategy code through the OptAlgo connector. Trading is done by OptAlgo's execution service from the strategy's rules, on paper by default and live only after you confirm in the app.
No bot is profitable by construction. OptAlgo exists to answer that question honestly per strategy: the grade, the overfit check and a walk-forward show whether an edge survived data the strategy never saw. Paper results then show whether it holds live.
Claude.ai and ChatGPT through the MCP connector, Claude Code through MCP over HTTP, Codex and any terminal agent through a device login and the agent guide, and any program through the REST API.
Chat connectors cannot place live orders. API keys for terminal agents carry scopes and server-side limits on allocation, leverage and daily loss, and live trading on a hosted strategy needs your confirmation.
